Paul has been working at Optima for over 16 months as a controller. Paul works for many not-for-profit clients, which is an area that he is experienced in -- along with vertically integrated manufacturing.
Paul has been in the accounting industry for a long time and the opportunity to collaborate with new accountants in the industry is exciting for him. There is a significant amount of knowledge that can be passed on, especially in fundamentals like debits and credits. "People only study accountancy because they can’t handle the excitement of actuarial science!" exclaimed Paul.
What Paul loves the most about being an accountant is learning about new businesses and how they operate.
Paul is originally from South Africa, although he has lived in America since 1995. He voted for Nelson Mandela when he was elected in 1994, standing in line for 6 hours to vote in the historic election.
Fun fact – Paul has lived in ten cities around the world. Johannesburg, Pretoria (Yes, he was in the military too!) and Cape Town, South Africa, Hong Kong, New York City, Zanesville and New Albany, Ohio, Summerlin and Las Vegas, NV, and the best for last, San Diego, CA.
Paul's favorite pastime was raising his three children. He has 2 girls and a boy in the middle who are all very close in age, 24, 22 and 21. His oldest 2 have both completed 4-year degrees in the US and moved to live in Israel in February 2023. His youngest plays scrumhalf for the SDSU Women’s’ Rugby team where she will be a senior in the fall. Not someone to be messed with!
