Michael's official role at Optima is Assistant Controller. After graduating from Regis University in Denver Co, Michael had several roles within accounting and business development. Michael then moved to North County in 2012 and decided to return to school for a Master's in Accountancy at Walden University. Subsequently, he completed his CPA exam in California.
Michael has performed accounting functions at various levels in biotech, manufacturing, retail, and high-tech. He has worked with many companies such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, and Great Plains. He loves learning new Excel skills and has engaged in audits, internal and external, technical accounting, report writing and C-Suite communications.
Michael is grateful that he gets to work in varying industries and with a variety of team members. At Optima, he enjoys how one can find innovative ways to create accounting procedures for companies across different technical accounting subjects. He also appreciates the flexibility, which allows him to be with his three daughters who are raised in a hybrid homeschool environment. The time he gets to spend with them is priceless.
The most rewarding thing at work for Michael is when he solves a reconciliation that has been historically out of balance and presents it to a company owner in a way that provides more accurate financials.
