Optima Team Spotlight: Tammy Connors

Tammy Connors - Assistant Controller - Employee Spotlight

At Optima Office, we’re powered by smart, dedicated professionals who bring heart, perspective, and drive to everything they do. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Tammy, one of our brilliant Assistant Controllers whose career has spanned everything from Fortune 500 audits to tech start-ups and non-profits.

Tammy joined Optima after years of running her own consulting practice. What drew her in? The chance to collaborate, share knowledge, and grow with a like-minded team.

From morning routines that prioritize fresh air over phone screens, to her passion for meaningful change through organizations like Solutions for Change, Tammy brings intention and authenticity to everything she does.

Let’s take a deeper look at Tammy’s journey, her wisdom, and the habits that keep her thriving.

1. What initially drew you to Optima and the industry?

After being a consultant on my own for over a decade, I was happy to become part of an organization that offers the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and to tap into the unique knowledge base that they each have.

2. What’s a small daily habit that makes a big difference in your work or life?

"Sky before screen" is a concept I recently learned about and have been following, which is simple but makes a big difference:  In the morning, step outside for a breath of fresh air and appreciate nature, before connecting with your computer or phone.

3. If you had unlimited resources, what project or initiative would you love to start?

Rather than starting something from scratch, I would love to pour more resources into an organization I already support: Solutions for Change.

4. If you could time travel, what advice would you give your younger self?

It is people, and not things, that matter most.

5. What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since joining Optima?

It’s difficult to step out of my comfort zone, but it’s always worth it.

6. What’s one book, podcast, and movie that has had the biggest impact on you?

The Ed Mylett Show podcast.

7. If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

I would love to be a talented painter.

8. What makes you feel the most fulfilled?

Making a difference in people’s lives.

9. What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

My husband, son, and I are on a quest to see a game played in each of the 30 MLB stadiums. We’ll be visiting T-Mobile Park this summer when the Padres face the Seattle Mariners.

10. If you could have any superpower to help you at work, what would it be and how would you use it?

I would like to not require sleep, so that I could accomplish more things.
