San Diego-based accounting company Optima Office plans to hire a part-time teacher. Employees pay $20 per student per day. Optima will pick up the rest of the cost. Jennifer Barnes, CEO, said its staff is 70 percent women and that many of them are juggling several roles, including caring for children and helping them with distance learning as well as cooking meals.
“If we could help them even just eight hours a week to focus on what they chose as their designated profession — not teaching — then it is worth it to us to justify the cost,” Barnes said.
